About the Event


The Shirley Eustis House is proud to present this year's Roxbury Russet Festival and an all-star lineup of activities for all to enjoy! From 12pm - 6pm, attendees will find:

  • Crafts and activities (BINGO is back with some fun new prizes!)

  • Apple picking

  • Snacks and sweet apple cider from local orchards

  • Local resources on farming and where to find fresh, seasonal produce in your community

  • Demonstrations of cider pressing on a replica historic cider press

  • Live music (details on our performers coming soon!)

  • A visit from 19th century Roxbury pear whiz Enoch Bartlett


Craft Beer Tasting and Evening Lecture

The fun doesn’t stop when the festival ends. Right at 4pm, we’ll be hosting a 21+ craft beer tasting with brews from Long Live Roxbury, including a small-batch graf beer created exclusively for the festival, and featuring Terpenes from Rooted In! Once you grab some beer, we'll have a seat for a lecture by Helen Humphreys, author of The Ghost Orchard: The Hidden History of the Apple in North America. Parents are welcome to bring their little ones -wristbands will be issued at the door for those above 21 who will be participating in the tasting.

Helen Humphreys is the award-winning author of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Her books have been translated and published all over the world, and have been optioned for film, television, stage, dance, and opera. She lives in Kingston, Ontario, where she is the Director of Creative Writing at Queen's University. Her latest book is a novel about the life of Henry David Thoreau entitled Followed By the Lark, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux in February 2024.
